Clients who have already had a programme of exercises set by a physiotherapist or a doctor may want more motivation and instruction to keep their programme going. Instructors are trained to identify exercises for different body parts and provide general strengthening exercises for these specific body parts. Where a person has had surgery or there have been complications, the instructor will act under instruction of the lead therapist.
Instructors do not have medical clearance to work with individuals who are handicapped and would need to work under instruction of a lead doctor if the doctor felt that Pilates exercises would be beneficial to the individual's health.
